Queens Park sell out Celtic pre-season friendly as champions come to town

Celtic hit the road again tonight as their pre-season preparations continue with a short jaunt to face Queens Park in Glasgow’s southside.

The Bhoys are fresh from a 1-1 draw against Ayr United last Friday, where a rotated side got some valuable minutes in their legs ahead of competitive action.

No fewer than 23 players featured against the Honest Men, and Brendan Rodgers is set to shuffle his pack once again to afford everyone a chance to shine ahead of Celtic’s upcoming USA tour.

Friendlies aren’t about results; they are purely to sharpen fitness and mental sharpness with competitive action in mind. Still, wouldn’t it be nice to see a few goals and a clean sheet this evening?

Away supporters aren’t permitted to attend the clash against Queens Park due to no public sale of tickets being made available. Spiders fans will be in attendance, and they have snapped up briefs in their numbers as the champions make the trip across the River Clyde.

Queens Park announce sellout for Celtic visit

On social media platform X, Queens Park have announced that the fixture tonight is now a sellout, making for an exciting occasion at The city Stadium.

It should be noted that only around 900 supporters will be in attendance tonight due to the capacity of Lesser Hampden.

Either way, a healthy crowd is set to provide the backdrop for the first meeting between the two Glasgow sides since 2009 in the Scottish Cup Round of 16. Gary Caldwell and Scott McDonald were the scorers for the Hoops that day in a narrow 2-1 victory under Gordon Strachan.

Friendlies aren’t typically exciting, but their importance shouldn’t be understated. Every successful season is a byproduct of groundwork laid along the way, and non-competitive matches are valuable exercises to put building blocks in place for the club to achieve more silverware.

On a final note, Celtic TV hold the right to show tonight’s fixture. There isn’t a pay-per-view option or another means of taking in proceedings, and a subscription is needed to access live coverage.
