Celtic started their 2025/26 campaign with a narrow win against St Mirren.
Luke McCowan’s late winner vs St Mirren means that the Hoops already have a two-point head start on Rangers after they were held to a 1-1 draw against Motherwell.
Brendan Rodgers’ incredible opening day record continued, and for the third season in a row, his side already have some breathing room between themselves and Rangers.
It may only be game into long season, but the Glasgow derby neighbours already sound like they’ve admitted defeat in the Scottish Premiership title race.

Rangers fan concedes title to Celtic
Clyde 1 Superscoreboard was in full swing after the first round of SPFL fixtures for the season and there were plenty of callers from both clubs in Glasgow.
Despite plenty of room for improvement, Celtic got the win whereas Rangers didn’t and one Rangers caller already thinks they have a mountain to climb.
The caller said: “Potentially, we could be eight points behind Celtic by the end of the month after four games.
“I heard that they’re going to Antman but maybe we should go for Ryan Kent’s brother Clark because it’ll take two superheroes to win the league this season.”
Celtic could have an unassailable lead by August
It would be premature to say that the title is done and dusted by the end of August, but if the prediction comes true and the Hoops are eight points clear heading into September, it’s hard to imagine the Bhoys being toppled.
Rodgers is a serial winner and has never not won a Scottish Premiership league title.
Multiple players in the Celtic squad have also won multiple league campaigns and if they can continue to win while Rangers drop points, title number 56 will almost certainly be heading to Celtic Park.
