Reo Hatate showed over the weekend why he is highly admired by the Celtic fans.
Before the visit of Kilmarnock, the Celtic Park faithful wondered if Hatate would keep his place in Brendan Rodgers’ XI after the team’s very poor showing against St Johnstone.
Hatate avoided Rodgers’ axe, and he played a part in Celtic tearing apart Kilmarnock, including the team netting four goals inside half an hour.
Cameron Carter-Vickers stole the headlines with his quite incredible strike from distance and goal of the season contender.
But another man who scored a brilliant strike was Hatate – that’s his first strike – which was a typical curling effort from distance.
And he was given his flowers of the highest order, an unlikely source from the other side.

Reo Hatate told about his ‘too good’ quality nobody in Scotland can stop
Hatate played a one-two with Adam Idah before taking a touch and whipping the ball into the top corner.
Former Rangers player Richard Foster stated that he ‘actually laughed’ when he saw Hatate’s first goal because it’s what he does best.
Foster explained that ‘nobody in Scotland’ can stop the Japan star when he is playing those one-two on the edge of the box because it’s ‘too clean’, as he told Clyde 1 Superscoreboard.
“As much as we are laughing at (Celtic possibly) winning (the title) at Ibrox,” said Foster. “Winning at home, in front of your fans, would have been the best.
“I actually laughed when I saw Hatate’s (first) goal. Carter-Vickers’ goal is a great strike. But he is hitting the ball at the target.
“Hatate knows exactly what he is doing. But he knows what he is doing before he even plays the one-two. There is nobody in Scotland that could stop him from doing that. He is too good. Too clean. Too sharp. It’s just a fantastic goal.
“That’s the Reo Hatate the Celtic fans have seen, plenty of times, and want to see.”
Hatate’s stats for Celtic this season
On his day, nobody can stop Hatate, and sometimes the critics want a bit more because he doesn’t hit those consistent heights.
But that’s just the high standards the quick-thinking midfielder has set, and why he is loved by everyone inside Parkhead.
That’s proven by his WhoScored ratings, which in the Premiership and in the Champions League this season is pretty similar.
| Tournament | Apps | Goals | Assists | MotM | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Premiership | 24(9) | 9 | 4 | 3 | 6.96 |
| Champions League | 9(1) | 1 | 2 | – | 6.95 |
