It was a strike of a lifetime from Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers.

You do wonder why the USMNT international doesn’t shoot more often, because that was a strike of venom, precision and pure quality.

Brendan Rodgers is used to opposing teams, especially at Celtic Park, sitting deep and giving the Hoops very little space to make the ball talk.

But, during Celtic’s 5-1 win over Kilmarnock on Saturday afternoon, Carter-Vickers showed that you just don’t need to play through the opposition with quality and patience, because you can thump the ball into the back of the net like it disrespected you.

Now, everyone has been enjoying Carter-Vickers’ wonder goal, even those from the Americans’ home country have reacted with amazement and joy.

There was also the on-pitch reaction from the players, including one Alistair Johnston, who was the first to approach his teammate once the ball struck the back of the net.

But, on social media, Johnston is sharing a different tune.

Alistair Johnston doubts Cameron Carter-Vickers meant his wonder goal for Celtic

It’s humorous, but you have got to love a bit of banter between the Celtic players, and Johnston was certainly up to it once the game finished.

At first, he posted on his Instagram story that he felt that Carter-Vickers was trying to cross the ball, by sending a seven-word message that you can read below.

Before he responded to Carter-Vickers’ own IG post, by hilariously stating in the comments section, ‘tell the truth’.

‘Still not convinced it wasn’t a cross’ wrote AJ on IG story.

Before’ adding on CCV’s IG post, ‘Tell the truth’, with the likes of Adam Idah simply writing ‘Shoooot’, and Greg Taylor responding with a smiling face with a heart-eyes emoji.

Carter-Vickers’ own words on his goal vs Kilmarnock

You might as well give Carter-Vickers Goal of the Season now, and it makes it even better that it comes from a defender.

But whilst the likes of Johnston have their doubts, the vast majority knew that the former Tottenham player meant it, and hopefully, he has more in his locker.

Although, Carter-Vickers admitted to Celtic TV, that he simply can’t see him hitting a ball like that again.

On if he has scored a better goal than that in his career: “No, probably not,” responded Carter-Vickers.

“I stepped in and hit it. It flew in. I probably couldn’t do that again if I tried, but it went in and I am happy.
