As the Celtic fans continue their celebrations after beating RB Leipzig in the Champions League, the fallout continues for the Bundesliga side.

Celtic’s 3-1 win over Leipzig was an outstanding display of attacking football and a lesson in how not to play against a team with an aggressive pressing style.

Nicolas Kuhn and Reo Hatate were excellent in the win and now Celtic have seven points on the board whilst Leipzig languishes at the bottom end of the Champions League table with zero points.

And as the German media react to Celtic’s dominant display, Leipzig sporting director Marcel Schafer makes his feelings perfectly clear on another disappointing Champions League night for the Germans.

RB Leipzig ‘deservedly lost’ to Celtic in Champions League

Leipzig have no points of 12 after the defeat to Celtic was off the back of losses to Juventus, Atletico Madrid and Liverpool.

And reacting to the defeat, Schafer admits his team ‘deserved’ to lose to the current Scottish champions.

Schafer told RB Live, ” We deserved to lose. The first quarter of an hour was restless, but we got into the game quite well with the opening goal.

“After that, we had two very, very good opportunities to get the game on our side. You could tell that even the audience was restless.

“We could have pulled the momentum on our side. Due to a Sunday shot and a situation shortly before the break, in which we didn’t play very cleverly, we were suddenly behind – and in the end, we deservedly lost.”

Marcel Schafer doesn’t ‘sugarcoat’ RB Leipzig’s Champions League defeat to Celtic

Clearly unhappy, Schafer goes on to say that his team are ‘a long way off’ from where he wants them to be after the Celtic Park defeat.

“We don’t need to sugarcoat anything,” continued Schafer, “That’s not our claim, that’s disappointing. I hope that everyone has understood that.

“We have other ambitions, we want to be at the top of the Champions League. We’ve had great evenings, especially in the knockout phase.

“We are a long way from that right now. There are still 12 points to be awarded, but we would have to win three of them with only four games left. It wasn’t enough today, it has to be said so clearly.”

Celtic are in a great position to reach the play-off places with seven points on the board. With Club Brugge up next another win will virtually guarantee that spot.

As for Leipzig, after last night’s lesson from Celtic, Brendan Rodgers has sent them home to think again.
