‘Really good’… Brendan Rodgers says two Celtic players made a ‘brilliant’ impact vs Motherwell

Celtic fans will head into the week ahead feeling rejuvenated after their side showed character to defeat Motherwell at Fir Park.

Stuart Kettlewell’s side were in the ascendancy over the first half and took the lead following some excellent approach play from Lennon Miller, setting up Blair Spittal to open the scoring.

Nevertheless, Adam Idah emerged from the bench at the interval and proved to be a cut above the rest, equalising with a fantastic header not long into the second 45.

Brendan Rodgers’ men had their chances to settle the affair earlier; however, they left it late, as Hyunjun Yang and Alistair Johnston cut open the Motherwell rearguard, with the latter smashing a low ball into Idah who fired home

Luis Palma was quickest to react at the back post in the dying stages, getting himself on the scoresheet after Yang made it impossible for him to miss by providing a pinpoint centre.

In truth, there have been less stressful games to watch over the course of Celtic’s history, though there is nothing sweeter than a late winner to relieve the stress associated with a hectic season run-in briefly.

Next up, the Hoops face Dundee at home on Wednesday evening in another must-win game for Rodgers’ double hunters.

Brendan Rodgers singles out two Celtic players after Fir Park win

Rodgers had a few players to thank for his side’s late heroics at Fir Park; nevertheless, he has singled out Palma and Yang for their ‘really good impact’ on proceedings.

The Irishman also praised the wider ‘mentality’ of his squad, which shone through on a day when the Hoops could’ve easily crumbled under the pressure.

He stated [Cited via The Celtic Way]: “I think the guys coming into the game made a really good impact. Yang was good; he gave us the width and attacked on the outside and created space for the passes inside.”

“Palma comes in and scores a goal as well and gets into the second post for the cross. I thought for the mentality of the team, the quality they showed – and the pitch was a wee bit bobbly – I thought the second half they were brilliant.”

Granted, Celtic didn’t make things easy for themselves and, once again, were prone to sluggish moments early on, which is a trend the team needs to buck if we are serious about taking the title race to the wire.

However, nobody can fault the attitude shown to regain control against Motherwell, and the Bhoys took a result that they were thoroughly deserving of once the referee sounded for full-time.
