Record Celtic vs Hearts viewing figures prove Hoops’ massive pull

Celtic have once again shown they are the driving force behind Scottish football television audiences after Sky Sports confirmed the Hoops’ title-clinching win over Hearts produced the biggest SPFL audience of the season.

The end of season finale gripped the world as Hearts looked to end a 60-year title hiatus with a Celtic Park showdown on the final day.

However, Celtic beat Hearts to claim their fifth title in a row and Sky Sports have revealed the huge interest in the Scottish champions was shown in their viewing figures.

Is this Celtic side underrated because domestic success feels routine?

Celtic and high-stakes football still deliver huge Sky Sports numbers

A spokesperson for Sky Sports said: “Celtic v Hearts on Saturday averaged an in-home only audience of 1.09 million and peaked at 1.37 million viewers, making it the highest SPFL audience of the season.”

The figures underline what broadcasters already know. When Celtic are involved in matches with genuine stakes attached, audiences follow in massive numbers.

The final-day title showdown against Hearts had obvious drama attached to it, but reaching an average audience above one million remains a major number in the Scottish game.

That audience also compares strongly with previous Glasgow Derby broadcasts, which have consistently been among Sky Sports’ strongest Scottish football performers.

The numbers underline Celtic’s unmatched commercial pull

These viewing figures are another reminder that Celtic remain central to the commercial strength of the SPFL television product.

Sky Sports’ long-term broadcast agreement with the league depends heavily on fixtures capable of generating national interest and major viewing audiences. Celtic continue to provide that more consistently than any other Scottish club.

The 1.37 million peak audience also demonstrates that the fixture attracted attention beyond Celtic’s own support. Casual viewers do not arrive in those numbers without a genuine sense of occasion.

The SPFL has worked hard to grow television audiences in recent seasons, but the biggest numbers still arrive when Celtic are at the centre of the story.

That is not opinion anymore. The data now backs it up clearly.
