Today is the day as Celtic face Red Star Belgrade in Serbia.

The Hoops kickstart their Europa League journey with a difficult test against a side who have been flying domestically this season.

Red Star have netted 14 goals in their last three games, two of which helped them to a derby victory over Partizan Belgrade on Saturday.

Red Star midfielder spoke to the press yesterday and delivered his thoughts on Celtic and what he made of the dreadful Glasgow derby in August.

Red Star’s Timi Elsnik on Rangers 0-0 Celtic

Celtic drew 0-0 with Rangers at Ibrox in what was a truly forgettable occasion that produced just two shots on target all game.

Timi Elsnik took the game in knowing he would be playing against Celtic for Red Star, but he doesn’t think the performance that day truly reflects the Hoops’ qualities.

He also delivered a warning to Celtic, saying: “I don’t know any of the players. Of course we watched the derby. But that 0-0 derby is not really an assessment of the strength of Celtic.

“Celtic are a big team, dominant in their league, we’re aware we have a difficult opponent. But we’re playing in the home ground. It doesn’t matter how they line up, we’ll be prepared.

“We’re aware that Scottish football teams are really physical and we have to be equal in that segment.

“But we have to use our own qualities and we have our own experienced players who can win a game at any moment.

“So Celtic should always think about us, we have to believe that we can play in the proper way and I believe the result will come.”

Red Star Belgrade’s results so far this season

As mentioned, the Serbians have started the season really well bar their failure to reach the Champions League league phase, much like Celtic.

Having played seven league games so far, Red Star sit top of the Serbian SuperLiga with a 100 percent winning record.

Arch-rivals Partizan have played one game more, but Red Star sit two points clear at the summit of the division.

Incredibly, Red Star have scored 30 goals in the league already, while only conceding five. That’s an average of just over four goals a match.

Celtic will need to look out for winger Aleksandar Katai, who has a stunning 11 goals in seven league appearances.
