Kasper Schmeichel’s injury is horrible timing for the big man and Celtic.

The great Dane has been in superb form as Schmeichel’s 19 clean sheets help put Brendan Rodgers in a strong position to win his third treble as the Celtic manager.

Missing Celtic’s win over Hearts, the 38-year-old veteran is approaching the twilight of his career but what he is doing behind the scenes at Lennoxtown has left one Celtic Academy graduate gobsmacked.

Young Celtic goalkeeper Josh Clarke has hit out at the unfair criticism Schmeichel received after Denmark’s defeat to Portugal, where the Danish media criticised the Hoops heroes’ fitness levels.

Kasper Schemiechel does ‘so much work behind the scenes’ at Celtic

Clarke has been left blown away by Schmeichel’s unseen work rate at Lennoxtown as the young Hoops goalkeeper explains the lengths the Celtic number one goes to to keep fit.

Clarke told the Daily Record [print edition page 61]: “Kasper, as the No 1, is brilliant to learn from. I see what Kasper does to get himself on the pitch…. so much work behind the scenes.

“It’s very unfair if there is any criticism because he always prepares himself. It’s saunas, ice baths, everything he can do.

“I’ve been doing some training back at Lennoxtown. It’s something I’ve done for a little while now – going between both clubs.”

Josh Clarke impressed with Celtic first-team players winning mentality

With a potential treble on the horizon, Clarke has heaped praise on the Celtic first team squad’s winning mindset this season.

Clarke continued, “The way the guys at Celtic approach the game and the mentality they have to keep winning, winning, winning is something I see in training.

“It becomes instilled in you and I try to bring the best I can.

“You seeing them operate – playing Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday every week. Their ability to keep going is quite remarkable.

“It’s unfortunate for Kasper. I’m not quite sure the extent of how bad it is.”

Fans will be hoping that Schmeichel recovers from his injury in time to help see a potential treble over the line come the end of the season.

Because if there is any player that deserves to be a part of any of the celebrations, it’s the Celtic number one after his performances both domestically and in the Champions League.
