Yes, we know everyone has been waiting patiently on Alexandro Bernabei’s official announcement as a Celtic player but it seems it is all now reaching a crescendo after news that he has completed his medical with the Bhoys.
Argentinian journalist Cesar Luis Merlo, who has been all over this story and reported significant updates on the situation, says he has come through his medical and will officially sign in the next few hours.
It’s stated he will sign a five-year contract until 2027, which is a substantial commitment and a sign that Celtic strongly believe in his ability to be a hit here. Many players put pen to paper on four-year deals.
It was known last week that Bernabei had made the trip to Scotland from Argentina, after saying his goodbyes in Lanus, so this news won’t come as a great shock to anyone.
If anything, many fans have expected the club to have announced something already.
However, it’s always important to remember that these multi-million deals are complicated affairs and can’t be completed with the click of fingers.
Medicals in the modern game are essentially complicated risk assessments rather than a pass/fail scenario, with medical staff and other key club figures weighing in on the potential pitfalls of offering someone a five-year contract.
Thankfully, it all seems to be moving along nicely and the Argentinian is now expected to be part of the club’s pre-season preparations this week and into the Austrian training camp.
Ange Postecoglou was intent on strengthening the left-back department at the club and has got his wish, which is very pleasing.
Now, where’s Jota?
