Legia Warsaw are reportedly considering a friendly match against Celtic to send off departing goalkeeper Artur Boruc, according to a report from the Daily Record.

The Polish goalkeeper announced he will be leaving Legia in the summer and is still to officially decide whether he will retire from the game.

Boruc spent a large chunk at the beginning of his career with Legia Warsaw before moving to Celtic in 2005, playing at Parkhead for around five years.

To this day, Boruc is seen as an icon to many Celtic fans, being regarded as one of the best shot-stoppers in the club’s modern era.

After his stint with Celtic, he went on to play in Italy and the English Premier League before returning to Poland in 2020.

The 42-year old has now called time on his second spell with Legia Warsaw and, in classic Boruc style, was sent off in his final game for the club back in February.

The Polish side is now reportedly considering an approach to Celtic about playing a friendly in honour of the goalkeeper and giving Boruc a proper send-off between the sticks.

Of course, it would be a lovely moment for the veteran goalkeeper to play in a friendly with two of the teams he spent a large chunk of his career with.

However, Celtic and Legia Warsaw don’t exactly have the best of relationships.

This was due to the incident during the 2014/15 Champions League qualifying campaign when Ronny Deila’s Celtic was defeated 6-1 on aggregate. But, the Hoops advanced in the competition due to Legia playing an ineligible player.

Since then, both sides have had relations when completing transfer dealings, including current Celtic star Josip Juranovic’s move from Poland to Glasgow last summer.

So, hopefully, that relationship has recovered, and the two teams can set up a fixture in honour of Artur Boruc’s career.
