Celtic are ‘close to agreeing’ a deal that will see Rosenborg defender Birger Meling make the switch to Glasgow, The Herald report.
The paper say that the 24-year-old could even be unveiled before the upcoming clash with Swedish side AIK on Thursday night.
The report comes after BT Sport pundit Chris Sutton tipped Meling to sign for the Hoops on Friday.
Lennon refused to be drawn on the speculation yesterday, but did hint a player could be on the way when asked if there were any imminent signings.
He told The Herald: “Possibly. They might be cup-tied though.
“Chris Sutton says a lot of things. I wouldn’t take Chris Sutton’s word as gospel.”

Could Meling be the cup-tied player?
UEFA rules state that if a player has featured in the qualifying process of either European competition, they can’t play for another club until the group stages, whether Europa or Champions League.
Meling does indeed fall into that category, having played in all six of Rosenborg’s qualifying matches so far. The left-back would be no use for the upcoming AIK tie, if he does indeed sign.
Is Meling worth signing?
The Hoops badly need a left-back in the door after the exit of Kieran Tierney to Arsenal.
Boli Bolingoli has signed but he needs support and competition as he adjusts to life at Celtic Park.

Regardless of his current cup-tied status, Meling still fits the profile of players Celtic should be looking at this summer.
He has experience of winning league titles and playing in Europe. He’s also previously impressed against Brendan Rodgers’ Hoops side, scoring at Celtic Park last year.
Having won international caps too, there might not a better available left-back on our budget right now.
With just a couple of weeks before the end of the transfer window, it’s crucial that the club start to deliver their big summer targets.
