Celtic are in advanced talks with and close to appointing Ange Postecoglou, it has been reported by The Telegraph journalist John Percy.

As we discussed earlier, Postecoglou is the bookies favourite to take charge at Celtic.

This report would appear to back that up with Percy believing that he is close to becoming the new manager at Celtic Park.

Percy stated on Twitter: “Celtic in advanced talks with Ange Postecoglou and are tonight close to appointing him as manager. Postecoglou, 55, has been working in Japan with Yokohama F. Marinos.”

Interestingly, Yokohama Marinos have an association with the City Group, so Postecoglou could well be known to reported Celtic Director of Football candidate Fergal Harkin.

He has won league titles in Japan and Australia.

The 55-year-old has also previously managed Australia, Melbourne Victory and Brisbane Roar.

It would an appointment from left-field if it goes through.

We know for certain that Eddie Howe won’t be taking the position and that Celtic need to quickly appoint an alternative candidate.

With Postecoglou not very well known by the Celtic support, it’d be very interesting to see how the news is perceived.

Could he fit well into a new structure in the Bhoys football department? There are very interesting times ahead.
