Celtic coach, Gavin Strachan has turned down the opportunity to become the manager of League One side Shrewsbury Town. [The Sun]
According to the report, The Shrews put two generous offers on the table to try to entice the 44-year-old to become their main man.
However, it is believed that Strachan has turned down their offers after making it clear that he wants to take part in the new Brendan Rodgers era at Celtic Park.
67 Hail Hail told last week how the in-demand coach was stopped from moving to Tottenham Hotspur to join Ange Postecoglou after intervention by majority shareholder, Dermot Desmond.
And now, it seems that Strachan himself has refused the opportunity to become his own man and is keen to work under Rodgers as part of his coaching staff.
Clearly, Strachan is very well thought off both at Celtic and from outside the club. This is not the first time he has been offered, and then subsequently refused, a managerial position.
Back in November 2021, Strachan knocked back the opportunity to manage Hartlepool United. The Scotsman enjoyed a four spell there as a player and the club were keen to have him back as the manager.
He was also once tipped to take over at Dundee in 2022 and despite being one of the favourites for the job, he was never approached.
Strachan joined Celtic under Neil Lennon in 2020. And despite many fans pointed the finger at him and John Kennedy for their part in the collapse of the ten-in-a-row season, the club clearly still value their work on the training ground.
And so, it seems, does Brendan Rodgers. The report in The Sun says that Rodgers was keen to keep Strachan at the club as he attempts to defend the treble next season and it seems that the new Celtic gaffer has gotten his wish.
