With Brendan Rodgers set to be announced as the next Celtic manager, all eyes have been on who the Irishman is looking to bring with him as part of his backroom team.

Reports have already suggested that Jack Lyons and Glen Driscoll will be a part of the new-look backroom team. Rodgers is also said to have persuaded John Kennedy to remain at the club as his assistant manager.

So that leaves Gavin Strachan. The Scotsman was said to have been a target for ex-Celtic manager, Ange Postecoglou as the Aussie looked to build his backroom team around Strachan and John Kennedy.

But it seems now that Postecoglou has been dealt a huge blow after a report in the Daily Record has said that Strachan will remain at the club.

Majority shareholder, Dermot Desmond has reportedly ‘demanded’ that Strachan remains at the club and part of Brendan Rodgers’ backroom team. This is another huge blow for Ange who will now need to look elsewhere after losing out on John Kennedy last week.

This ‘personal intervention’ is another victory for Celtic as Desmond flexes his muscles to ensure that the departure of Postecoglou remains as pain-free as possible for the club.

Kennedy and Strachan are, clearly, highly-valued by Celtic. The amount of effort put into retaining their services is indicative of that and it also looks like Rodgers is keen on keeping the pair at the club.

For me, this means that the club are one step closer to making an officail announcement at appointing Rodgers as the manager.

With a full backroom team in place, Rodgers will be able to hit the ground running in preparing to help Celtic defend their Treble and make an assault on the Champions League.
