If Celtic were to sign Brighton goalkeeper Mat Ryan, it could only cost them around £2.6m, Mundo Deportivo reports.

The Spanish outlet claims that Real Sociedad are also ready to move for the Australian international veteran. Celtic, meanwhile, are reportedly assessing their goalkeeping options with new boss Ange Postecoglou keen to reunite with Ryan [Sky Sports].

Mundo Deportivo reports that Real Sociedad are looking to sign Ryan within the next few days. This comes with Arsenal reportedly dropping out of any race for the goalkeeper’s signature.

The report states that Brighton could strike a deal for Ryan would between €2m [£1.7m] and €3m [£2.6m].

There have been no reports of any bids being launched by Celtic for the Australian international. However, after an unproductive second half of the season on loan with Arsenal, first-team game-time will be his priority.

A new dawn beckons for Celtic in Europe, as Joe Hart shows his class once again

Celtic may need to move quickly to seal Brighton goalkeeper Mat Ryan

Having a La Liga club decide to move in for Ryan most certainly complicates things. All of a sudden it means that one of our top transfer targets could be on the agenda of a club from one of the top leagues in Europe.

Ryan has a decision to make then should Celtic still be courting him. A move to one of the best leagues in world football, or a move to one of the best clubs in world football.

The worrying thing for Celtic is that Ryan is likely to play regularly if he signs for Sociedad. Mundo Deportivo reports that Ryan is being viewed as a replacement for long-term stopper Miguel Angel Moya.

However, chances of adding to his medal haul with the Spanish club is highly unlikely. With only two A-League titles and a Belgian Cup to his name, his career has hardly been soaked with success and medals. Celtic can offer him an opportunity to really give him a period of his career for him to be proud of.

It’s also too tempting a situation for the Hoops not to make a move. At a potential deal of only £2.6m at the highest, Celtic could solve a long-term problem position out for little cash.

But if we want to get this done, it’s starting to look as though we’ll need to move quickly.

In other news, an impressive reported Celtic transfer target has confirmed a move elsewhere.
