Celtic hold interest in Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek, according to a report.

New Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers has already strengthened his midfield this summer, with Odin Thiago Holm joining from Valerenga.

However, Aaron Mooy has retired from football and many Celtic supporters will feel the club need at least one more addition in the midfield area.

Football outlet 90 Min have delivered an interesting transfer report about van de Beek. In it, they say that the Dutch midfielder’s representatives have been in talks with a number of European clubs about a summer move.

They say that Celtic “hold interest” in the player as well as the likes of Sevilla, Nice, Feyenoord and his former club Ajax.

Finally, they say that Manchester United would prefer to sell van de Beek permanently this summer, but that a loan move looks “more likely” as things stand.

It is fair to say that we’ll see more substantial transfer rumours this summer, but we probably shouldn’t completely write this one off either.

Van de Beek has struggle badly for game time since his move to England in 2020. Even on loan at Everton in 2021/22, he struggled to regularly feature.

Celtic are an attractive proposition right now, as we covered earlier with some quotes from Callum McGregor after his contract extension.

We can offer players like van de Beek a chance to play in front of 60,000 supporters every other week, potential trophies, magical Champions League nights, a highly-regarded manager and much more.

It would be no surprise if Celtic really were interested in bringing him to the club — although a permanent deal seems like a non-starter, given the transfer fee that would likely be involved.

Anyway, hopefully this is the start of some more exciting Celtic transfer news. Things have been a little quiet on that front over the past seven days.

In other news, the second Brendan Rodgers Celtic era will get off to a quiet start on Wednesday evening
