Celtic are reported to be interested in signing Livingston goalkeeper Liam Kelly. According to The Scottish Sun, the Hoops are in a battle with Bundesliga 2 side Hamburg and a host of English clubs for the shot-stopper who has excelled in his first season at the West Lothian club.
In total, Kelly has kept 14 clean sheets in the league this term as Gary Holt’s surprise package secured safety on their return to the top flight.
He’s also been the scourge of Celtic this season – keeping clean sheets against the Hoops on two separate occasions.
And we could land the Scotland call-up for a cut-price fee of just £50,000 this summer due to a clause Livi inserted into his contract when they signed him from Rangers last summer.
What have we got to lose?
The deal for Kelly looks like a good one of the face of things. The goalkeeper wouldn’t command a huge fee as discussed above. Neither would he be after a hefty wage.
Scott Bain has been in excellent form since taking over the number one jersey at the start of the year, keeping 16 clean sheets in 19 domestic games, but beyond him there doesn’t seem to be a great deal of cover.
Dorus De Vries looks set to leave the club at the end of the year while Craig Gordon’s days also look like they could be numbered.
There’s also the added advantage of getting one over on our own rivals by signing one of their former players.
