A new name is being linked with the Celtic job this afternoon after Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg reported that the Bhoys are ‘very interested’ in Daniel Farke taking charge.

Plettenberg says a first round of Celtic talks have taken place with the former Norwich City and Gladbach manager. Leeds United also looking at him as a potential appointment and could ramp up their own interest next week.

Farke was in charge of Norwich for over four years and found promotion from the English Championship to the English Premier League twice, having also been relegated from the top flight. His most recent spell was in Germany with Gladbach, a post he left last week after a difficult 10th placed finish in the Bundesliga.

Farke is just the latest on a long list of names that have been linked with the Celtic post. That list includes Brendan Rodgers, Enzo Maresca and Jesse Marsch, among others. The Bhoys look to be shopping in the managerial market at the right time with plenty of bosses looking for their next move.

Leeds would no doubt be a tempting alternative to the Bhoys, but Celtic’s guaranteed UEFA Champions League group stage football is a very nice carrot.

Farke has also more than proved himself in the Championship previously – is it a challenge he would really like to go back to?

Celtic have had a week to initially sound out any interested parties and it would be no surprise to see the club hasten the search for the new man over the next seven days.

There’s no massive rush, but fans certainly want to see the right manager in place well before the return of pre-season training at the start of the next month. The sooner an announcement is made, the more comfortable everyone will be about the future of the club.

Farke is now a name everyone will be watching with intrigue.
