Report: Celtic youngster Jeremie Frimpong set to leave club
Celtic right-back Jeremie Frimpong is “speaking to a club”.
That’s according to STV reporter Raman Bhardwaj, who tweeted the update in the last hour. Alison Conroy confirmed the news via Twitter, also.
According to the Glasgow Times, Jeremie Frimpong made it clear to manager Neil Lennon that he wanted to leave Celtic.
The Amsterdam-born full-back has been an ever-present for Neil Lennon this season, making 30 appearances in all competitions [Transfermarkt]. In that time, he’s made 5 assists and scored once for the Bhoys.
Any deal for Frimpong is complicated by a clause from his original signing. Signed by Celtic from Manchester City for less than £350k in 2019 (Celtic FC), Frimpong’s transfer reportedly included a 30% sell-on clause, as pointed out by Hampshire Live.

Huge blow for Celtic, with Jeremie Frimpong wanting out
The youngster has been mightily impressive in bursts for the Bhoys during his spell at the club. His debut against Aberdeen was memorable, and he made a mark in domestic competitions and in the Europa League.
Although a very raw prospect, there were hopes that the right-back would develop his game at Celtic. While he came under fire for some of the defensive aspects of his game, he is able to get supporters out of their seats with long, mazy runs from his own half.

There are a multitude of factors as to why Frimpong might want to leave. The various scandals surrounding the club this season would be enough to turn anyone’s head.
Equally, interest from Roma will have had Frimpong’s agent’s antennae twitching for other offers. While we don’t know which club is negotiating personal terms with the youngster, it’s possible that Roma have come back in for the Celtic star.
If Frimpong is to leave, Celtic are hardly an embarrassment of riches in that position. There’s Elhamed, who has reportedly asked for his own move. Ajer can play right-back, but is better in the middle, while Anthony Ralston has barely featured for the club.
It’s such a shame, as Frimpong seemed like a genuinely enthusiastic Celtic player. His famous interview after last year’s Betfred Cup Final became a viral sensation, despite the youngster being sent off.
Make no mistake, this is a massive blow. And others may follow suit.
