Do you remember last week when I said that if Brendan Rodgers did return to Celtic then the one area he would need to sharpen up on was in the transfer market?

Well, one of his former signings, Kundai Benyu is now out of contract and according to Goal, he has rejected offers from Scotland to continue his career in South Africa.

After leaving IBV of Iceland, the former Celtic midfielder is now a free agent. The 25-year-old has decided to play in the Premier Soccer League despite offers from teams in Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and, rather surprisingly, Scotland.

No Scottish clubs were named in the report so it would have been interesting to see who would have held the interest considering his last fruitless spell in the country.

For whatever reason, the move for Benyu just didn’t work out. He made four appearances for Celtic over his period at the club.

To gain first-team football, Benyu was loaned out to Oldham Town where he made just five appearances and then he moved on to Henrik Larsson’s Helsingborg in 2019. [Sky Sports]

But it seems he has opted to move to South Africa after being freed by Icelandic side IBV and talks with two clubs and Benyu’s agents have begun.

The Kaiser Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are rumoured to be interested in the midfielder and it seems both clubs are extremely keen to land the former Celtic midfielder.
