Former Celtic recruitment chief John Park is set to be appointed within a senior scouting role at Rangers, according to The Athletic.

The 63-year-old spent time at Celtic Park working under several different managers, from Gordon Strachan through to Brendan Rodgers.

However, his time with the club came to an end in October 2016 during the current Leicester City manager’s first season in charge, eventually being replaced by Lee Congerton.

During his spell with Celtic, Park picked up a few gems that would go on to be brilliant successes for the club, such as Victor Wanyama, Virgil Van Dijk and Moussa Dembele.

Of course, as Celtic fans will be well aware, though, the Hoops have had their fair share of disappointing signings under Park’s reign at the club, which is always bound to happen in the transfer market.

Since his Celtic departure, the recruitment chief has taken roles across Europe, including spending six months working with Polish side Legia Warsaw as head of international recruitment.

His most recent role came at English Championship side Blackburn Rovers, where he worked closely with former Celtic manager Tony Mowbray.

According to a report from the Athletic this evening, Park is now set to take up a new job at the Bhoys’ closest rivals after being appointed within a senior scouting role at Rangers.

The Ibrox side has yet to make a new signing for their senior squad this past month but have now added a former member of the Hoops recruitment team for the transfer window.

With Celtic looking to secure back-to-back Scottish Premiership titles, Rangers will be playing catchup this summer in order to try and get closer to Ange Postecoglou’s ever-improving squad.

It is certainly an interesting move for John Park to make. We will have to wait and see how it works out for all parties further down the line.
