According to reports, the Celtic board are relaxed on Ange Postecoglou and his coaching badges situation.
Much noise had come out this week about the former Australia manager’s credentials. An article in the Sydney Morning Herald from 2020 resurfaced, leading many to believe Ange Postecoglou and other Oceania/Asia based managers couldn’t easily work in Europe.
However, Celtic aren’t too worried, according to the Sun. A report last night claimed:
“A report raised questions over ex-Australia boss Postecoglou having the necessary Uefa qualifications — especially the Pro-licence — to manage in one of Europe’s top-flight leagues.
“The governing body expects managers to possess their A and B coaching licences, while at the very least being able to demonstrate a commitment to gaining their ultimate badge.
“But it’s understood Parkhead chiefs are entirely relaxed over the qualification situation of the experienced Greek-born Australian, who has previously bossed the Aussie national side, Melbourne Victory, Brisbane Roar and South Melbourne.”
Surely, Celtic wouldn’t have had a plan in place without necessary assurances. If there was a chance Postecoglou’s coaching badge situation could embarrass the club, that is. The Hoops board, after last week’s drama, can ill-afford another embarrassing spectacle.

Would Celtic risk further embarrassment with Ange Postecoglou?
At 55, and having managed in the World Cup, surely something can be sorted here. Otherwise, it sets an alarming, Euro-centric ideal in football. That would shut a wealth of coaching talent out of this continent. What an absolute waste that would be.
In terms of Celtic’s situation, while little surprises us currently, it would be an unparalleled shock if we hired someone who can’t work here. That’d be completely daft. Background checks and eligibility information surely need ironed out at the start of even considering a particular manager.
It seems like storm in a teacup stuff. But then, it seemed like we’d have someone else in by now. It continues to be an incredibly unusual time for us Celtic supporters.
