Celtic winger Mikey Johnston is reportedly weighing up a number of options as he prepares to depart on loan this summer.

The 23-year-old first broke through into the first team under Brendan Rodgers in 2017, making his debut against St Johnstone.

However, it was Neil Lennon’s second tenure as boss, which was when the academy graduate began to establish himself as a regular member of the squad.

Despite putting in some very positive performances at the start of his Celtic career, the winger was hindered by several injury issues.

After a frustrating few seasons, supporters were hoping the arrival of Ange Postecoglou would mark a fresh start for the youngster.

But, once again, Johnston faced inconsistent game time due to more injury knocks, which kept him out for several weeks at a time.

Reports in recent weeks have suggested that the Celtic manager is willing to let the winger go out on loan in an attempt to kick start his career and return with more game time under his belt.

Johnston looks to be taking a step closer to completing a loan move this window, with reports from Football Scotland stating that he is now weighing up a number of potential options as he prepares to spend the season away from Parkhead.

One side who are no longer a loan option for the Celtic man is fellow Scottish Premiership side Hibernian, who appear to have pulled their interest after the return of veteran winger Martin Boyle last week.

Belgian side Standard Liege, who ex-Hoops boss Ronny Deila currently manages, remains an option. However, Johnston is looking at several clubs, deciding which would be best to spend the next season at.

Loan move the correct choice for Johnston as he looks to kick-start Celtic career.

After a frustrating few years for the winger, a loan move feels like the best move for all parties at this stage of his career.

At just 23 years old, Johnston still has time on his side, and a spell out on loan for the entire season could prove crucial for his progress.

He will be hoping to put his injury issues behind him and pick up some consistent game time before returning to the club next summer.

With the transfer window coming to a close at the beginning of September, I am sure this is one move we will see gather more pace in the coming weeks.
