Celtic’s participation in the UEFA Champions League looks to be a key advantage in the transfer chase for Alex Collado.

As we discussed earlier today, Sky Sports have reported that the Bhoys have made contact with Barcelona about the attacking midfielder’s situation.

However, Ange Postecoglou isn’t the only manager in Europe eyeing his signature, with Olympiacos and two La Liga sides also credited with an interest.

Journalist Albert Roge believes multiple teams have spoken to Barca. The good news is that Collado favours European football, and with Celtic already confirmed Champions League participants, it seems we’re in a good position.

Olympiacos were dumped out of Champions League qualifying by Maccabi Haifa and may not even make it into the Europa League after a 1-1 draw at home to Slovan Bratislava in the first leg of their latest tie.

As we know, Celtic are already in pot four of the groups and can look forward to testing themselves against the best teams on the continent, which is apparently one of Collado’s ambitions.

Collado was on loan at Granada last term and is said to have impressed despite his team getting relegated by a very narrow margin.

Celtic group The Cynic have also published some data analysis on his season, noting his high dribbling output and tackling ability.

Postecoglou having more options in attacking areas would be welcome, especially on the right flank, Collado did get game time in the top-flight last season.

Ultimately, as always, this one might come off. But it is a transfer link that does make a bit of sense for multiple reasons, and if Celtic are truly interested, it appears there are more barriers for any signing rivals than us.
