Report: Rodgers, Moyes and more eyeing Celtic loanee Cameron Carter-Vickers
Premier League clubs are interested in Celtic loanee Cameron Carter-Vickers, according to a report.
TEAMTalk have stated that Tottenham Hotspur man Carter-Vickers is “in demand” from a number of English top-flight outfits, including Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City, and David Moyes’ West Ham United. Though Celtic theoretically have the lead in any negotiations for the centre-back, Wolves, Burnley and Watford are also reportedly keen.
Meanwhile, Championship sides Middlesbrough, West Bromwich Albion and his former loan side Bournemouth are similarly interested.
The report states that Carter-Vickers is unlikely to get a game at Tottenham Hotspur, his parent club. The USA international has been ever-present at Celtic Park this season, making 32 appearances, and even chipping in with two goals and an assist [Transfermarkt].
For Celtic, he’s been a commanding and calming presence in the defence. He’s averaging a considerable 4.5 aerial duel wins in the Scottish Premiership, as well as a handy 1.3 interceptions and 4.7 clearances [WhoScored?]. His speed, upper-body strength and reading of the game have been assets to the Hoops under Ange Postecoglou.
Alongside Carl Starfelt, Carter-Vickers has helped to build the meanest defence in Scotland. Far from the chaos of last season, and early 21-22, Celtic have a considerable defensive unit.
Keeping Carter-Vickers long-term, then, would be a real boost. However, with Premier League clubs reportedly keeping tabs, that might be difficult.
Cameron Carter-Vickers deserves plaudits for excellent Celtic spell; does Premier League await?
Shock and horror, as another impressive Celtic player is linked with a move to the Premier League.
In fairness, this is a bit different. Of course, Carter-Vickers is technically a Premier League player already, as a member of Tottenham Hotspur. However, he’s proven with his displays for Celtic, particularly in Europe, that he’s capable of playing at a high level.
This is no shock to anyone watching the Bhoys this season, of course. However, it’s more evidence that playing for Celtic can be a real boost for any player’s CV. With no disrespect to Bournemouth or Luton Town, it’s not quite the same, is it?
Of course, what would be ideal is Carter-Vickers staying at Celtic. The Hoops have a loan to buy agreement in place, and it’d be extremely good business. Being cynical, you could suggest that Celtic might shell out, only to sell, a la KV Oostende and Jack Hendry.
We could surely use him though. Admittedly, the Celtic defence isn’t perfect, but it’s a lot better with Carter-Vickers in it.
If, indeed, West Ham United, Leicester City et al are interested, it’s no surprise. A strong, modern centre-back who can play the ball and has attributes beyond the centre-half position? They’re worth their weight in gold these days. Especially at the elite level.
This’ll be an interesting one to keep tabs on.
