Celtic are reportedly looking to address the midfielder area in the transfer market and see it as a ‘matter of urgency’.

Since the summer window opened on the 10th of June, Ange Postecoglou has added four permanent additions to the squad.

Both Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers returned to the club after successful loan spells, alongside two completely new faces in Ben Siegrist and Alexandro Bernabei.

The Celtic manager isn’t expected to be finished in the transfer market and is looking to target more new additions to improve his squad.

Reports have suggested that the Hoops are looking to bring in a central defender and striker after facing injury issues in those areas of the pitch last season.

However, Postecoglou’s main area of concern appears to be a new midfielder.

Currently, the Bhoys are working hard in an attempt to secure the services of Lommel defensive midfielder Vinicius Souza.

Talks between the player’s representatives and the club have been going on for some time now, and Celtic are pushing for an answer from the Brazilian.

According to the Daily Record, Postecoglou wants to address the position as a ‘matter of urgency’ and will soon move on to other available options.

The report states that a source close to negotiations has confirmed that Souza fits the bill for what the Celtic manager is looking for. However, the 56-year-old has other options and will look elsewhere shortly due to his demand for a new midfielder.

“The two parties are still talking, but there does come a point in time when Celtic need an answer and that moment is fast approaching.

“If Souza – or his agents – aren’t prepared to commit, then the club will simply have to look elsewhere because it’s an area of the team that the manager wants to address as a matter of urgency. Souza absolutely fits the bill in terms of what’s required, but he’s not the only option.” [Daily Record]

Postecoglou’s chase for a new midfielder may become clearer this week.

It is understandable why the Celtic manager feels the need to bring in a new midfield option after the departure of both Nir Bitton and Tom Rogic this summer.

After quickly addressing other crucial areas of the park, Postecoglou’s focus now seems to be firmly on bringing in a player capable of playing in that area of the pitch.

His chase may become a lot clearer as the week progresses after delivering a transfer ultimatum to Vinicius Souza and his representatives.

Once the 56-year-old is provided with his answer, it will allow him to move on to other targets, and Ange has shown in the past that he has a few tricks up his sleeve in the market.

With Postecoglou and the club seeing this position as something that needs to be addressed urgently, you would imagine we will see a lot more movement in the coming days and weeks.
