Surprising news has emerged this morning in the Daily Record stating that Scott Brown could be set for retirement.
Brown joined Aberdeen in the summer as part of Stephen Glass’ new-look backroom team in a player-coach role. However, since the appointment of Jim Goodwin last month, things have appeared to turn sour.
The Record reports that Goodwin wasn’t willing to offer Brown any background influence. This goes against the Celtic great’s plans to work towards becoming a manager when he does indeed hang up his boots.

It’s this reason alone that has led to Brown making the decision to potentially move on.
In addition to that, the Record reports that Brown and Goodwin got off to a bad start in their working relationship. This was due to the fact the player was interviewed as a managerial replacement for his new boss at St Mirren just 24 hours after Goodwin’s departure.
Brown has only featured on 1 of Aberdeen’s 4 matches under their new boss. And given the relationship between the pair, it looks as though a different path for the former Hoops captain would be an extremely wise move.
Scott Brown all but set for pastures new as Aberdeen spell winds down
This was always the big question on everyone’s mind after Glass departed Pittodrie. Brown was both his appointment and his signing as a player. How Glass’ exit would affect Brown’s role in the Granite City was always going to be interesting.
Unfortunately, it looks as though it’s ending how many would’ve predicted. It would’ve been surprising to see Goodwin keep Brown on in an assistant manager’s role. Not when he has his own backroom staff that he wants taking up those roles.
Brown has always made it clear that he wants to be a manager one day. One of the key attractions of leaving Celtic for Aberdeen was always the fact that he could take up a backroom role at Pittodrie. With that now seemingly being snatched away from him, it makes little sense for him to remain there.

Goodwin is of course entitled to do what he feels is best for the club under his stewardship. If he doesn’t believe Brown is the right fit for his backroom team then that’s down to him. But Brown is also entitled to feel that one of the main reasons he’s even at Pittodrie is now no longer there for him.
Hopefully, a quick solution can be agreed to here. The Record reports that the news could be made official at some stage today. That would be an incredible turnaround to say the least, but clearly this has been brewing for some time.
It’ll be interesting to see where Scott ends up moving to should he leave Pittodrie. All Celtic supporters will certainly be keeping an eye on what happens next.
