Wilfried Nancy’s Celtic announcement was a long time coming.
The Columbus Crew boss had been pursued for a number of weeks, with Martin O’Neill doing a pretty good job while taking care of the team in the meantime.
Less than an hour before Martin O’Neill’s farewell against Dundee, Nancy’s arrival was confirmed, and Thursday is officially his first day in the job.
Nancy will face the press ahead of his first match against Hearts, as he addresses the Scottish media for the first time.
The club have had weeks to prepare for their rolling out of Nancy’s arrival… but that hasn’t stopped them making an embarrassing error in the process.
Celtic make error in Wilfried Nancy announcement
Nancy may be something of an unknown quantity coming from the USA, and not everyone at the club will have been aware of him.
But is spelling his name correctly too much to ask?

Apparently so – in officially announcing Nancy to the stock markets, Celtic have called him “Wilfred Nancy.”
The announcement, available via the London Stock Exchange, lists the erroneous name on multiple occasions. This is not a joke.
The statement isn’t signed by any club officials, as whoever wrote it will be glad to know. But Chris McKay is the only board member mentioned in the release.
The statement reads: “Celtic is pleased to announce the appointment of Wilfred Nancy as the Club’s first team manager to replace Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney who took charge on an interim basis, with Wilfred commencing employment from 4th December 2025.
“The Board of Celtic is pleased to welcome Wilfred to the Club.
“The Club would like to thank Martin, Shaun and the other members of the back room team for their work in recent weeks.”
At least they got the other names right.
Wilfried Nancy’s first day at Celtic
Nancy has been pictured on his way to take Celtic training on the club’s official social channels:
What’s the first thing Wilfried Nancy needs to address at Celtic?
This will be one of just three chances for him to work with the Celtic squad ahead of his first match against Hearts.
Given the nature of the game as a top-of-the-table clash with Hearts, Nancy will surely be welcomed by a fervent atmosphere at Celtic Park.
The Green Brigade won’t be in their usual place to welcome him though, as their dispute with the club goes on.
