If you told the Celtic fans in August that they would only win one Premiership game against Rangers this season, then they would have reacted with worry.
Simply because it’s not the norm, for one side of the Glasgow divide, to win two derby games over the course of the season, and draw the other, yet not win the title.
But, after Celtic’s draw against Rangers at Ibrox on Sunday, it was the opposition who picked up more points in this fixture this season.
Yes, Celtic won the League Cup final in December, in that enthralling penalty shootout win, and that has put Brendan Rodgers’ side on course for the Treble.
But Chris Sutton posed a question to Robbie Savage on BBC 606, in regards to the above situation.

Robbie Savage states who has the ‘bragging rights’ – Celtic or Rangers
Celtic are Scotland’s most successful club with 120 trophies, as 121 could be put on the table if they beat Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup final later on this month.
Added to that, they have 55 Premiership titles, including four in a row, and 14 out of the last 15.
Sutton asked Savage if Rangers might have the ‘bragging rights’ of Glasgow because they have ‘got the better’ of Celtic in the league this term.
But Savage instantly dismissed that suggestion and provided the right answer.
“You were at a big game,” said Savage.
Sutton responded: “I was at a big game. The Glasgow derby. 1-1. Rangers and Celtic. I don’t know whether you watched the game.
“Here is a stat for you, an incredible stat, Barry Ferguson hasn’t won a home game since he has been Rangers manager. That’s incredible, isn’t it, when you think about that.
“Here is another one for you. So, Rangers have got the better of Celtic in the league games this season. They have got seven points, so going into the summer, do they have the bragging rights?”
Savage responded: “No, Celtic do. The champions.”
Celtic’s dominance since Rangers returned to the top-flight
Rangers returned from their trips in the lower leagues in 2016 and have watched Celtic dominate even further.
Those in green and white have actually won more with Rangers in the Premiership than when they were out of it.
From Treble wins to unbeaten seasons, it has been a right laugh since 2016:
- Premiership titles – 8
- League Cups – 7
- Scottish Cup – 6
