Fraser Fyvie has backed his ex-manager Roberto Martinez for the Celtic job.
Portugal boss Martinez is one of the current favourites with the bookies for the hotseat, ahead of current interim boss Martin O’Neill.
Ex-Scotland youth midfielder Fyvie, who was a teenage prodigy at Aberdeen, moved on to play under the Spaniard at Wigan in 2012.
And there’s no doubt in his mind: Martinez would be perfect for Celtic.
Would you take Roberto Martinez as Celtic’s permanent manager after the World Cup?

Speaking on PLZ Soccer, Fyvie said: “If they managed to get Roberto, it would be a steal for the club.
“Obviously, Celtic’s a massive, massive football club, but Roberto would be a revelation in there.

“I think the style of play would suit the club, obviously Shaun Maloney’s already there, who he’s obviously been with at Wigan, and Shaun went with him to Belgium.
“So I think if they could get Roberto, it would be amazing for the football club, it would probably be amazing for Roberto and Shaun as well.
“But I think tactically, the way he wants to play would suit Celtic to a tee. To be Celtic manager you have to play football in a certain way.
“I think Roberto meets the criteria for all of that. Just the way he represents himself, the way he is with players and everybody around the club… he’s fantastic.
“He was really good in the Premier League in England, he’s got a good pedigree, and obviously went up into the international game and done fantastically well as well.
“So that would be a no-brainer appointment for me, if he was available for that job.”
Fyvie says all of this despite making just eight appearances under Martinez.
I want the next manager of Celtic to be…
The last decade for Celtic candidate Roberto Martinez
After being sacked by Everton, Martinez made the surprise move into international football in 2016, taking charge of their ‘golden generation’ side.
Taking them over after a shock elimination to Wales at EURO 2016, he guided them to third place at the 2018 World Cup, but results were less impressive at the next two major tournaments and Martinez was sacked.
He was also a surprise pick as Portugal manager. At his first international tournament at EURO 2024, they reached the quarter-finals, being eliminated by France on penalties in the quarter-finals.
A year later, he guided them to a Nations League title, beating reigning champions Spain 5-3 on penalties. Despite this success, he is not expected to renew his contract after this summer’s World Cup.
