Celtic’s hunt for Joe Hart’s replacement has taken the club across the length and breadth of the globe.

That’s certainly how it feels anyway. With 20 goalkeepers linked to Celtic since Joe Hart announced his retirement, the rumours have been coming thick and fast but with not much substance to them it seems.

Peter Vindahl Jensen seems to be the one who keeps making the headlines but with Celtic no further forward on signing a new number one, the fans are starting to get a bit frustrated.

In fact, many would be inclined to question what exactly is going on at the club now that we are almost into the middle of July and not one signing has been made.

Well, it seems that in terms of finding Hart’s replacement, plenty is happening at Lennoxtown according to journalist, Roger Hannah.

Celtic looking at ‘every goalkeeper’ they can

Brendan Rodgers mentioned last week that if he had wanted, he could have had nine players in this summer. You would have to assume at least one of them would be a goalkeeper.

And after what Hannah has heard, it does seem like the club is leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of a new number one.

Hannah said [Superscoreboard], “I don’t think it will be the same sort of age profile as a Joe Hart or a Kasper Schmeichel.

“I think it might be a younger guy at the peak of his powers if you like, who will give Celtic four or five years of the best, if you know what I mean and then a younger goalie to back him up, I would think.

“I’m told the goalkeeping department at Lennoxtown has been through videos of just about every goalkeeper you have ever heard of in the five months since Joe Hart announced he was going to be leaving the club.

“I’m sure it will be narrowed down. I’m sure they will have a list to go through.

“And as Brendan said if that takes them to the start of the season, so be it, if they want to get the right guy in.”

As I said before, the only worry is that Hart announced his intention to retire way back in February. With that amount of time to get a replacement in, the Celtic fans would have been hoping that this position would have been sorted by now.

With the 2024 USA Summer Tour almost upon them, you would at least expect Rodgers to have signed a goalkeeper and not prepare for the new season with Scott Bain between the sticks.
