Roy Keane makes a claim about Celtic’s dressing room, and the Hoops hero he is still in touch with

They don’t make players and characters like Roy Keane in today’s game.

Albeit for a small period of time, Celtic enjoyed Keane’s greatness before he retired from the game, after he had enjoyed a successful period with Manchester United and Nottingham Forest.

Just like Keane, the TV pundit, he was no-nonsense as a midfielder and one of the greatest captains to have worn the armband.

The 54-year-old joined Celtic in 2006, just after the legendary reign of Martin O’Neill had ended, and Gordon Strachan was in the Celtic Park dugout. And he spoke about the dressing room.

Roy Keane on the Celtic dressing room

The likes of Bobo Baldé, Neil Lennon, John Hartson and Artur Boruc were in the dressing room when Keane was at the club.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Keane was asked about his favourite moment of his career, and he cited Forest because they gave him the kick-start in his career.

Before mentioning the dressing rooms he was a part of, including how he ‘enjoyed’ his time at Parkhead, even though he was in Glasgow for a small period of time.

“If I ever reflect on my career and look back,” said Keane. “I always seem to be, generally speaking, in good dressing rooms. I always enjoyed the lads I played with, would it be even going back to Ireland, the teams I played over there.

“Forest was brilliant. People like Stuart Pearce, Des Walker, Nigel Clough, then, of course, going to United, we had an amazing dressing room.

“I enjoyed even my time at Celtic, the dressing room there. But getting to Forest for my trial was the foundation for me having a decent career.”

Keane on keeping in touch with Stiliyan Petrov

But the man whom Keane still keeps in touch with is somebody who enjoyed a fruitful and trophy-laden spell in the famous green and white colours.

And that’s Stiliyan Petrov.

Micah Richards: “Do you still keep in touch with them ex-players?”

Keane: “Yeah. Yeah.”

Richards: “You do. Who would be the ones?”

Keane: “Throughout my career? Where do you want to start? Would it be Sharpie (Lee Sharpe), Gary Charles at Forest, a couple of lads, Petrov at Celtic.”
