Roy Keane shares the recent conversation he had with Martin O’Neill after returning to Celtic

Roy Keane has revealed that he has spoken to Martin O’Neill following his return to Celtic.

Keane worked alongside O’Neill when the 73-year-old was the manager of the Republic of Ireland national team after being selected to be his assistant.

Since replacing Brendan Rodgers on an interim basis, it has been a pretty triumphant return for the Celtic legend, who has won three out of his four games.

O’Neill has stressed that he doesn’t want the job on a full-time basis but made some interesting comments towards Keane.

The club is looking for a permanent manager, and at this minute I’ve been called in to do the job as interim manager, and that’s the way it will remain.

Martin O’Neill knew he had to make a winning start at Celtic

Celtic’s current search for a new manager was one of the discussion points on the latest edition of the Stick to Football podcast.

Alongside the usual group and guest Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Keane was asked if he had spoken to O’Neill about taking the job.

His stance clearly hasn’t changed, but the former midfielder said his old colleague knew the importance of winning.

” I chatted to him last week after the game, he said, ‘We won. You have to win. If you get enough wins, you should be all right. You can survive long enough.’

“If you’re not getting results. You don’t need an owner to sit down. You go, listen, if things don’t pick up in the next two or three games, go, yeah, I know that.

“I’m not daft.”

As it stands, Celtic have three overwhelming favourites to become the new manager, including Wilfried Nancy, who has received plenty of plaudits back in the USA for the work he has done with Columbus Crew.
