Read MoreRoy Keane to Celtic would please the media, pundits and drama-seekers; the club need better
So, Roy Keane wants the Celtic job. That’s the big report this weekend anyway.
The Scottish Sun ran the exclusive late last night, reporting that the former Manchester United star is eager to bring the fight to Steven Gerrard’s Rangers team next season.
That’s despite talks breaking down between Keane and Celtic back in 2014 before Ronny Deila’s arrival.
Undoubtedly it’s a big story. It’s created headlines north and south of the border today as the media go into overdrive on the prospect of him becoming Celtic boss.
Make no mistake. Keane is a massive name. One of the best midfielders of his generation, he has found a second career as a high-profile pundit for Sky Sports and ITV, often generating discussion and sometimes controversy.
It would be a blockbuster appointment. It would please the media, the pundits and those looking for big stories and dramas emanating from Celtic Park. The prospect of Keane and Gerrard, old Premier League foes, going head-to-head is dynamite stuff for the neutral.
However, that’s not Celtic’s angle here. The club need better than that. We need a proper training pitch coach and tactician who can come in and improve the clutch of young players and prospects at Lennoxtown.
Keane has his strengths and his competitive character cannot be questioned. However, I just don’t see him as a good fit for a Celtic entering a bold new era.

The news has certainly worried a fair amount of Celtic fans. Online reaction to the news hasn’t exactly been met with warmth.
Some definitely feel that appointing Keane would be a major mistake. These supporters have taken to social media this weekend to share their thoughts…

I really hope Celtic aren’t even considering Roy Keane 🤦 surely the board have to be ambitious and make the fans happy with a proper managerial signing

ROY KEANE wants to become Celtic manager and make a sensational box-office return to Scottish football.
A total no go for me, Celtic need to take a step away from the “Celtic connection” and look outside the box 🤷♂️🍀 pic.twitter.com/Q4auk7tAs0

Roy Keane is not an acceptable managerial appointment for Celtic Football Club.

Celtic cannot afford to employ Roy Keane in any role at Celtic Football Club.
And I’m not talking financially.
Anyone championing him as Celtic manager/head coach does not have the club’s best interests at heart and is asking for trouble at Parkhead.
