Celtic are on the hunt for another Scottish Premiership title and will hope to commence the new campaign with three points against Kilmarnock on Sunday.

The Bhoys have brought in Viljami Sinisalo and Kasper Schmeichel so far; however, they are yet to sign an outfield player as they prepare to defend their crown.

Nevertheless, a trio of impressive pre-season victories against DC United, Manchester City and Chelsea have presented ideal preparation for Celtic as they set their sights on further silverware.

There is almost a strange mood among the fanbase at this point. Most are optimistic about another charge for league glory this term, but there is frustration at the lack of transfer movement on show.

Either way, former Celtic man Scott Allan believes his old side have what it takes to rise to the challenge and claim Scotland’s top prize once again.

Scott Allan’s verdict on Celtic’s title chances

Speaking on The Scottish Football Podcast, Allan stated: “I definitely think Celtic are the team to beat. Later, he continued, saying: “I think Rangers as a squad are in a worse place than they were come the end of the season there, while Celtic seem to be motoring, and they’re still to add as well.

“You look at their squad harmony and the way they’re playing in the pre-season games against some top clubs.

“You can look at the games how you want to, but they are playing some really good football, they look free-flowing and are scoring goals, so from one side of the city to another, I think Celtic can only be favourites at this moment.”

With the start of a fresh campaign upon us, it is hard to bill anyone bar Celtic as the favourites to retain the league title despite an evident lack of incomings. The evidence is plain to see; the Bhoys have delivered 12 out of the last 13 available, but that isn’t to say it will be plain sailing this time.

Results in pre-season are an encouraging indication of where the squad is; however, they mean nothing in the grand scheme of things bar a fleeting feeling of positivity. Kilmarnock at home this Sunday is where the ball starts rolling and Brendan Rodgers will be desperate to get off to a triumphant start.

In the present moment, putting the foundations in place for another successful season will be the priority at Celtic. One game at a time will be the mantra; hopefully, success will follow in due course.
