Celtic captain Scott Brown is already impressed with what Shane Duffy has brought to the Hoops in his short time at the club, the Celtic View reports.
The Ireland captain has only been at Celtic Park for a few weeks, and has already made an impact for the club, scoring in two of his three appearances so far.
Brown can already see the qualities that Duffy brings to the squad.
“Shane’s been prolific and hopefully that continues” Brown said, as quoted by the Celtic View (Volume 56, Issue 9, Page. 14).
“A great lad both on and off the park”
“He’s a great lad as well, both on the park and in and about the changing room. He talks, he’s a leader, and he wants to be here” Brown concluded.
It is a good sign for the future that Duffy has made such an impact in his short time at Celtic Park. It should be remembered that he is only at Celtic on loan until the end of the season. However, the fact that Brown has surmised that he wants to be at Celtic is a promising sign that the player wants to be at Celtic long-term.
Duffy had to hit the ground running at Celtic. He was coming into a club reeling after the defeat to Ferencvaros in the Champions League.
Can’t be blamed for defence’s sluggish start
Thankfully Duffy has certainly done that. His two goals showed the goal threat he possesses. His main job is defending however. Even though Celtic’s defence hasn’t been at its very best recently Duffy can’t be blamed for that.
So far, he has performed well in defence for Celtic. If we go with Brown’s comments, sooner rather than later Duffy will be the leader of Celtic’s defence. He will be the player that organises the back three or back four.
Who knows, should Duffy does stay at Celtic full-time, he could end up becoming the Hoops’ next captain. However, Duffy won’t be even thinking about that at the moment. He will be taking it one game at a time. However, it has been a very good start to Duffy’s Celtic career.
