Scott Brown has given his reasons why he rejected a contract offer from Celtic to leave the club this summer and join Aberdeen.
The iconic midfielder is set to take up a coaching position alongside new Pittodrie boss Stephen Glass at the end of the season, as well as joining the Dons squad for the next two years.
That’s despite being offered the chance to stay on at Celtic for another year with a contract offer.
Brown explained why he turned us down with his typical honesty.
As quoted by The Daily Record, he said: “I got offered another year at Celtic. It’s a hard situation just now because I’d have to wait until the end of the season to see who comes in.
“For me, to have that fresh start with somebody I know, trust and respect fully. Maybe sitting in at Celtic until the end of the season, not sure what to do or who’s coming in, that played on my mind as well.
“It’s going to be a sad time when I do leave but it’s been fantastic as well and I’ve enjoyed every single moment of it. Winning trophies, winning games and playing in front of our fantastic fans.
“I think I’ve got to look at the selfish point of view as well. I can’t just go in there and run a dressing room and be the guy that I believe can still play football. Aberdeen offered me a two-year deal, it was an offer I couldn’t turn down.”
It will indeed be a sad goodbye for Scott, but you can’t really fault his reasons.
It’s not often a player at his stage gets offered a two-year contract. It’s easy to understand why he’d take that and the opportunity to get his hands dirty with regards to coaching.

Celtic were always unlikely to offer him that kind of deal. Nor should they have really either. Two years seems like a stretch when his performances are already regressing. Added to that, any new manager must have the chance to appoint his own coaching staff.
Brown goes with our best wishes and we hope, to an extent, he finds success!
