Hot on the heels of news this morning that Eddie Howe was set to do due diligence on the Celtic job, another update has emerged from one of Scottish football’s major outlets.

As we discussed earlier, The Scottish Sun reported in an exclusive that Howe was set to do his homework on the Celtic position after talks with the Hoops hierarchy.

Now, The Daily Record are reporting in their own exclusive that Howe’s preferred destination is Celtic, having turned down two English Premier League offers recently.

A ‘high-placed source’ close to the Celtic negotiations told the paper: “Eddie is extremely keen on Celtic and claims that he only wants a job in England couldn’t be further from the truth.

“He has already turned down two job offers in the English Premier League, including Sheffield United only this week. The location doesn’t matter – what is important is that the club is the right fit for Eddie and Eddie is the right for the club.”

Eddie Howe to Celtic looks a goer

The paper say that more discussions are due to take place over the next few days, with negotiations set to be stepped up between club and prospective employee.

I know that for some fans there is little trust in media sources up in Scotland, but generally, when two different outlets are putting their names to Scottish football exclusives you can assume there is something to it all.

It’s all moving in one direction.

Clearly we can’t celebrate a Howe appointment until he’s at Celtic Park. Any number of things can go wrong between now and a potential unveiling.

The Record’s new timeline suggests we could get some big updates over the Easter Weekend and into next week.

It’s exciting stuff. Like many Celtic supporters, I’d love it to be the former Bournemouth boss in the dugout.

In other news, Albian Ajeti has been warned his Celtic future is on the line.
