Scott Brown reveals what James Forrest is like behind the scenes amid Celtic title drama

James Forrest probably thought he had seen and done it all at Celtic.

The 34-year-old has been at Celtic for over two decades, starting as a young kid in 2002, and making his senior debut in 2009.

Forrest has become Celtic’s most decorated player during that time, but he would never have been a part of a campaign like this current one.

Scott Brown knows Forrest very well, after he captained the winger during his days at Parkhead, and he shared that the all-action winger is ‘a brilliant people person’ behind the scenes.

“James Forrest is very quiet,” said Brown. “He will be going around the younger players as well. He is a brilliant people person.

“He understands people, and he understands what they want. He wants the best for the football club, which is why you give James another year because of what he brings and how well he does.”

Scott Brown thinks James Forrest is still ‘one of the best wingers’ at Celtic

Celtic take on Hearts on the final day, and there could be an argument that Forrest should start on the flanks.

Sebastian Tounekti started against Motherwell, but once again, he showed that he is better off the bench, with Hyunjun Yang playing on both flanks throughout the game.

Even though Forrest is past his peak years, Brown told BBC Radio Scotland that his former teammate is still ‘one of the best wingers’ at the club.

Now, some Celtic fans will argue that it isn’t very hard to do that, given the dross that has been purchased this season.

But it’s still relevant, which should open up the argument about whether Forrest should start against the Jambos, as Brown gave the Celtic legend his flowers.

“James Forrest is very quiet,” said Brown. “He will be going around the younger players as well. He is a brilliant people person.

“He understands people, and he understands what they want. He wants the best for the football club, which is why you give James another year because of what he brings and how well he does.

“See if he comes off the bench or starts, he is still one of the best wingers at the club. He’s so good, so direct, an old-fashioned winger.

“His first thought is, ‘How can I go and beat this guy?’ Not a lot of wingers naturally think like that. They want to play in pockets. Hold areas, and keep the ball. James is a bag of excitement.”
