Scott Brown has today confirmed his departure from Celtic as he signs a pre-contract agreement with Aberdeen.
The legendary Celtic captain will bring down the curtain on a 14-year Parkhead career that has been nothing but trophy-laden. Brown will leave the club with at least 22 Celtic medals to his name, with the opportunity available in the Scottish Cup to add to his list of honours.
Brown will join Aberdeen as a player/assistant manager. Stephen Glass’ appointment as the new Dons boss was confirmed earlier this week. And today, both clubs have confirmed that Brown will move with him at the end of the season.
In Celtic’s statement, Brown moved to acknowledge the Celtic supporters and the success he’s had at Parkhead over the years:
“Phenomenal support”
“I would like to sincerely thank Peter, Dermot and the Celtic Board for their tremendous support over so many years. We have always enjoyed a great relationship and always worked closely together to bring our fans as much success as possible.
“I would also like to thank the great Celtic managers I have had the good fortune to work with and also so many team-mates and, of course, the Celtic fans who have given me such phenomenal support and backing over the years. I have always given my best to the Club and always wanted the best for our fans. We have enjoyed some fantastic moments and success together, dominating the game in Scotland so regularly and enjoying some great European nights.
“It is a huge decision to leave this magnificent club, which has been such a massive part of my life for so long, but this is a new opportunity for me and a new chapter. Celtic will never leave me and the Club will forever be in my heart.
“We still have work to do this season and that will of course, as ever be my full focus as we try to bring our fans more success.”
Scott Brown leaves behind an incredible Celtic legacy
When Celtic signed the captain from Hibernian back in 2007, nobody could’ve envisioned the impact he would make on the club. As a player, a leader, and as a person, Brown epitomises everything you would want in someone who represents that jersey.
His departure has long been speculated this season. Inconsistent performances have coincided with a difficult campaign for everyone connected with the football club. The time always felt right for Scott to take on a new challenge next season.
He is one of the most legendary club captains we’ve ever had. Replacing him as both a leader and as a footballer is going to be an incredibly difficult challenge for the new manager. With over 600 appearances for the club, his influence on Celtic over the last decade, in particular, can’t be undermined.

Of course, there’s still a job to be done this season. The Scottish Cup will bring Brown the chance to end his Celtic career on a deserved high note. The way it’s always been – with him lifting up another domestic trophy.
Hopefully, we give him the ending to his Celtic career that he deserves.
We at 67HailHail would like to thank Scott for his incredible contribution to the club over his 14-year career at Parkhead.
