Celtic could be set to face yet another injury problem after Colby Donovan was stretchered off in the Scotland U21 win over Gibraltar.

The young Celtic defender was in good form as Donovan helped Scotland take a 1-0 lead into half time at the Europa Point Stadium.

However, just ten minutes after the restart, a crowd of 189 people watched Donovan collapse onto the ground after which the young Celtic defender was immediately taken off the pitch.

And speaking post-match, Scotland U21 boss Scott Gemmill has delivered an update on how Donovan is feeling as the Celtic youngster could face a spell on the treatment table.

Colby Donovan ‘in good spirits’ despite Celtic youngster’s Scotland injury

Donovan was immediately taken to hospital from the pitch as the injury looked like a bad one for the young Celtic starlet.

And Gemmill has shared what he knows about the injury and how the young Celtic defender is coping.

Gemmill told The Scottish Mail on Sunday, “I don’t know the full extent of it. I just know he was taken to the hospital because the ambulance was here.

“So it’s a case of wait and see, but he’s in good spirits and hopefully it was just precautionary.

“It’s my understanding the injury was around his ankle area.”

Colby Donovan’s rise to Celtic stardom

Young Donovan signed his first professional contract with Celtic in July 2022 and was then promoted to the B team a year later.

The right full-back went on to make 36 appearances for Stephen McManus’ side and made seven outings for the Celtic UEFA U19 squad.

So impressed was former Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers that Donovan was then thrust into the Celtic senior side, where he made his debut in a 3-0 win over Livingston in August.

Touted as the back-up to Alistair Johnston, Celtic will be hoping that the injury is not as bad as first feared as club doctors assess him later next week.
