Dundee manager James McPake has slammed the Rangers players for trying to get at Celtic loanee Leigh Griffiths at Ibrox today.

Griffiths came off the bench as a substitute to derision from the stands and fiery treatment from the players.

He received a yellow card for a tackle on Joe Aribo, which caused a flashpoint. There was pushing and shoving as the Rangers team surrounded Griffiths and the referee.

McPake wasn’t happy after the game, telling The Herald: “He’s going to get a hostile reception. He gets a hostile reception everywhere he goes. It would never cross my mind to say I’m worried about putting him on. Leigh’s a character that can take it.

“He went on and you could see what they were trying to do, in my opinion. He got booked and then there’s a riot about to happen all of a sudden because it’s Leigh. Rangers players coming from everywhere.

“Fair play to my players. That’s what I want to see from my team, togetherness. Paul McMullan, Liam Fontaine, Ryan Sweeney, Paul McGowan all coming together to help their teammate out.”

Griffiths’ career at Celtic looks all but over following his loan move to Dundee, despite signing a contract in the summer.

That deal is up at the end of the season and with his spell at Dens Park not going particularly well, there will likely be no room for him at the Bhoys.

By the end of his time at Celtic Park plenty of fans had turned against him because of poor displays and off-field incidents. However, McPake is more than entitled to back his striker if he feels he is being targeted.

In other news, Celtic Park hypocrisy; rivals’ offside goal this season there was no big fuss about.
