These are the moments where Celtic are blessed to have someone like Callum McGregor.

Given the chaos at Celtic in the last few days, the leaders in the dressing room need to stand up more than ever before, and McGregor is certainly one of them.

Yes, Celtic have a great partnership to guide them through the short-term in Shaun Maloney and Martin O’Neill, but other players will need to step up.

And Maloney named the players who are already coming to the fore, alongside the skipper, after taking training for the first time on Tuesday morning.

Celtic take on Falkirk in the Premiership on Wednesday evening, and Maloney noted that he has ‘relied on’ McGregor, Kasper Schmeichel, James Forrest and Kieran Tierney to get through training for the game.

As posted by STV News, it also shouldn’t be a surprise that Maloney mentioned Alistair Johnston’s name, as he has always showcased great leadership skills.

The Canadian international, mainly through interviews, has always been a vocal and popular character amongst the fanbase.

And now, with Celtic in their hour of need following Rodgers’ abrupt exit, Maloney praised those helping him through this ‘really, really difficult’ time.

“We have some experienced guys, obviously, Kasper is the most experienced,” said Maloney.

“But in terms of the lads that have come through the club. You have got Callum (McGregor). James (Forrest). Kieran (Tierney). I relied heavily on them this morning. Alistair Johnston is a really big part of the group.

“Unfortunately, Cameron (Carter-Vickers), had surgery yesterday, I think, or he would have been part of that.

“There is enough experience. Enough guys who have won. Enough guys who have experienced days like today. I relied heavily on them this morning. We will rely heavily on them (against Falkirk). These moments are really, really difficult.”
