Sky reporter explains why Kasper Schmeichel was absent from Celtic training ahead of Dundee match

Celtic are preparing for their rearranged Premiership game against Dundee on Wednesday night.

On Monday, all eyes were on transfer deadline day, as Celtic disappointed in the transfer market and failed to bring in the added quality required.

That’s going to be making the headlines ahead of this Dundee fixture at Parkhead, with Brendan Rodgers’ side pushing to restore the lead at the top of the table to 13 points.

It also comes one week before Celtic’s showdown with Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

It has been a gruelling week on the road for the champions, starting with that trip to Villa Park last Wednesday night, before Jota’s perfect return against Motherwell over the weekend at Fir Park.

All of those games were on the road, so it probably signals why everyone wasn’t present in Celtic training at Lennoxtown on Tuesday afternoon.

Kasper Schmeichel absent from Celtic training

Gordon Duncan was reporting live from Lennoxtown on Tuesday where the Celtic players were training and Rodgers seemed to be in a good mood post that January transfer window.

But the Sky reporter noted that Kasper Schmeichel was absent from training and how the 38-year-old has previously been allowed ‘extra rest’, so it could be a reason for his absence, as he told Sky Sports News (04/02/25 at 3:40 pm).

However, Duncan did add that he will ask Rodgers ‘if there is anything worth noting’ regarding Schmeichel not training because Celtic can’t afford to be without him ahead of that huge Bayern game.

“If we take a look at the players that are here at Lennoxtown this afternoon,” said Duncan, as the pictures panned towards the Celtic players doing some light training.

“There is no Kasper Schmeichel out there training, but that sometimes is the case. A player of his age gets an extra rest. Brendan Rodgers has told us before, so we will see if there is anything worth noting on his absence.”

Kasper Schmeichel’s season for Celtic in numbers

Schmeichel had big shoes to fill when Joe Hart retired, but he has taken to life in Glasgow like a duck to water.

It shouldn’t be a surprise because he has a Premier League title and FA Cup winners medal to his name, as well as tons of experience across Europe and on the international stage.

As of this moment, Schmeichel is on course to win the Treble and is conceding less than a goal a game for the champions, including three clean sheets in the Champions League.
