Sky Sports delete Greg Taylor post after Scotland vs Brazil World Cup gaffe

A social media post about Greg Taylor and Scotland’s scoring record against Brazil has been deleted after a basic World Cup stat was ignored.

The original post on X suggested that former Celtic defender Taylor was the only Scotland player to have scored against Brazil at any level.

As you can see, the tweet is gone, but it’s an embarrassing gaffe for the sports broadcaster who has had to defend themselves historically for their coverage of the Scottish game.

Are you worried Alistair Johnston’s World Cup performances results in him leaving Celtic? 😬🍀

Interest is growing as Johnston thrives with Canada… 🇨🇦

Sky Sports forget Celtic hero John Collins’ goal vs Brazil in France 98

John Collins scored from the penalty spot for Scotland against Brazil at the 1998 World Cup, a goal that lives long in the memory of Scotland and Celtic fans.

Scotland’s 2-1 defeat to Brazil was a closely fought encounter and Collins’ goal drew the scores level after an early opener left them trailing 1-0.

David Narey also scored in the 1982 World Cup as he and Collins remain the only Scotland senior goalscorers in the fixture, and Sky Sports should have done their basic research before embarrassing themselves.

Sky Sports’ Greg Taylor confusion

The confusion comes from blending youth and senior international records into one claim.

Greg Taylor’s goal against Brazil came at U20 level in the Toulon Tournament in 2017, which is clearly separate from senior international football.

However, Collins’ goal came in the World Cup opener in 1998, which was Scotland’s last appearance in the tournament.

So for Sky Sports to get this so wrong is doubly embarrassing for the sports broadcaster.
