John Higgins Rangers dig overshadows Celtic backing

Higgins is a huge Celtic fan and always nails his colours to the mast. But this latest comment on the title race will have the Hoops support in tears and leave Rangers fans fuming.

Higgins said: “Ugh…it’s a horrible thing, because it’s not happened in the last few years.

“Apart from the Covid year when Rangers won the league, which you don’t really count.

“I think we might be able to do it but it’s going to be incredibly difficult.

“We have five games left. If we win the five games, there’s every chance we’re going to be champions and I’m rooting for them.”

That one line lands hard.

The 2020-21 campaign saw Rangers go unbeaten across 38 games, finishing with 102 points and conceding just 13 goals, but Higgins dismissed it outright with a single remark.

Celtic title reality makes Higgins claim even sharper

Celtic’s situation makes the comment even more pointed.

The club sit on 67 points with five games remaining, trailing both Hearts and Rangers in a tight title race.

There are 15 points left to play for, and the margin leaves no room for error.

Internal messaging reflects that pressure. The current view inside the club is simple, they likely need to win all five matches to have any chance of lifting the title.

Higgins acknowledged that reality directly. The Celtic fan in him is still backing a late surge.

But his comment on Rangers ensures this is no longer just about belief, it is already stirring the rivalry again.
