It’s been a season of steady evolution for Hyunjun Yang at Celtic, and even in the midst of all the managerial upheaval, his performances have remained steady.

So much so in fact, that the Celtic winger has been called up for international duty as Yang gets the nod from South Korea boss Hong Myung-bo for the upcoming March fixtures.

But it gets better for Yang. Not only has he been called up to his national squad, the feedback from the KFA camp is glowing and it seems that the World Cup could be beckoning for the in-form Celtic winger.

Hong Myung-bo explains Celtic winger Hyunjun Yang’s Korea call up

Yang only has six caps for his country and was last seen in a South Korea strip for 15 minutes in the 4-0 win over Kuwait in June 2025.

But it seems Celtic fans could be seeing a lot more of him this summer at the World Cup as the South Korea boss lavishes praise on Yang.

Hong told the Daily Record, “Hyunjun Yang has shown levels of consistent performances this season for Celtic.

“I can say he is performing much better than the last time he was with the squad. He is an ideal player to use here as we experiment with tactical flexibility.

“I have not finalised the World Cup squad yet. I will select the players with the best performance and physical condition right before the Finals.

“These two games are all about maintaining momentum.”

Yang’s South Korea call is perfect timing for Celtic

For Celtic fans, this won’t come as a huge surprise. While Yang’s debut season was a mix of raw potential and frustrating inconsistency, this term has seen a more disciplined, tactically aware player emerge.

It’s that exact tactical flexibility that Hong is now looking to exploit as he fine-tunes his squad for the Finals.

With the World Cup squad not yet finalised, the message to Yang is clear: maintain this momentum. He is currently viewed as an ideal option for the national side, offering a different dimension on the flank that could be vital on the world stage.

If Yang can keep delivering for the Bhoys, he won’t just be helping Celtic’s title defence, he’ll be booking his plane ticket as a key component of the South Korean attack.
