When Max Boruc signed for Hibs earlier this summer, a lot was made in the media about his family link to former Celtic star, Artur Boruc.
And it’s not particularly surprising to see why. They both share the same surname, they both come from the same family and they both have chosen football careers as a goalkeeper.
So it’s little wonder there were a lot of newspaper column inches comparing the 20-year-old to the former Celtic man.
But it seems that despite sharing the same surname as the former Hoops goalkeeper, the young Hibs newcomer hasn’t even met his distant relative.
Boruc said [Daily Mail], “We share the same surname but I do not know the guy. We are from the same big family but it is not a close family relationship.
“I have never spoken to him. I appreciate him as a great goalkeeper and he is an inspiration. There are a lot of things I can learn from him and I have been watching a lot of videos, highlights of his career in Scotland and England and in the Polish national team.
“I really liked to watch him, especially when he was in the Prem in England. That was more my era. But other than that, I do not want to be associated with him. I am working on my own name.”

Artur Boruc was a not only a brilliant goalkeeper for Celtic but he was also a captivating character. His shot-stopping was second to none as was his on-field antics which often hit the headlines.
The Poland legend will always be remembered by the Celtic fans for his penalty save against Manchester United in the Champions League back in 2006. That save put us on our way to qualifying from the group stages for the first time and goes down as one of Celtic’s biggest nights in our recent European history.
Young Max may not know his goalkeeping cousin but if he is as half as good as Boruc was for us, Hibs will have a very good ‘keeper on their hands.
