Now that Benjamin Siegrist’s time at Celtic is over, the former Swiss U21 international can now look forward to the next chapter of his career.
Signed by Ange Postecoglou in 2021, Siegrist was brought in to Celtic challenge Joe Hart for the number one position after the disastrous Vasilis Barkas era.
However, despite the Swiss goalie showing his quality when he played for Dundee United, it seems that the step up to Celtic was just too much for him as he made just two appearances after a difficult two years at the club.
After sealing the deal to join Neil Lennon at Rapid Bucharest this week, Brendan Rodgers paid tribute to Siegrist praising the goalkeeper’s professionalism at the club.
Sporting Director delighted to capture Celtic ‘competitor’
Now, as Siegrist closes his Celtic chapter and opens a new one in Romania, Rapid Bucharest’s Sporting Director, Daniel Sandu, gives three reasons why he wanted to sign the former Hoops stopper.
Sandu said [FC Rapid], “Benjamin is a goalkeeper with a lot of experience, in the last two seasons he was in the team of Celtic Glasgow, where he was a competitor for the position with Joe Hart.
“We want to have competition in all departments and I don’t want any player to be quiet about his position.
“I want to create a competitive environment, based on competition and merit.”

Siegrist’s only two games for Celtic were against Ross County and Motherwell in the Viaplay Cup wins in 2022.
Since then the Swiss goalkeeper has not seen a minute of action for Celtic either under Postecoglou or Brendan Rodgers.
With Neil Lennon looking to bring success back to Rapid Bucharest, the former Celtic boss will be hoping that Siegrist can replicate the form he had on Tayside that persuaded the Parkhead club make the move and sign him.
